Girls Volleyball Posts Big Win
The Panther's volleyball team went to Hanover tonight and won a great back and forth match against the Hanover Indians, 3-2. The game scores were 19-25, 25-23, 25-13, 12-25 and 15-10. Whitman-Hanson started the game in slow motion and couldn't keep pace with Hanover. Hanover got out to an early lead thanks to sloppy play from the Panthers. Whitman-Hanson made a couple of rallies in that first set, but couldn't pull even because of too many service errors. Whitman-Hanson made a strong run at the end of the first set that carried into the second and third games. It was clear that losing the first set woke the Panthers up from their game time slumber and they started hitting and passing much better. In the second and third games Whitman-Hanson capitalized on Hanover's mistake with smart hitting and scrappy defense. In the fourth game the Panthers got out to an early 4-0 lead, but turned it over to Hanover who then went on a 5 point serving streak and never really looked back in that game winning handily 12-25. In the fifth and deciding set Alyssa Andrews served tough and got the team out to an early 4-0 lead that Hanover was never ever to climb back from. The team saw tonight that when they are energized, relaxed and having fun on the court they are much better volleyball team. Playing well tonight for the Panthers were Alyssa Andrews with 27 successful serve receives and 11 digs, Erin Clifford with 8 kills and Rachel Spillane with 5 kills.
Whitman-Hanson plays Rockland on Wednesday night in a Dig Pink volleyball match to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. Rockland and Whitman-Hanson will be decking themselves out in pink and encourage all fans to do the same. A $5 suggested donation will be taken at the door.
