Before I begin with
my weekly update I have two reminders for Panther Nation. This Wednesday
night, November 13th, is our Winter sports parent night. This
year we are inviting all parents, whether their children play sports or not, to
join us. After a brief presentation about some important athletic
information, there will be an informative program geared toward helping parents
deal with the issue of teenage drug and alcohol use. We believe this
program will be unlike anything we have presented in the past and truly believe
it can help our students in a very meaningful way. Doors open at
5:45pm. This event is for parents only – students will not be admitted.
Also, next Saturday
night, November 16th the athletic department is holding a major
fundraiser with a concert by Irish Tenor Ronan Tynan. Tickets are
available online at www.whathletics.com
. These types of fundraisers are essential to sustaining our athletic
offerings.
And now to our
update……
1) The
football team battled to a 20-20 tie with Falmouth on Friday night in the final
home game for seniors. Senior Charlie Murphy blocked the game winning
extra point with 2:45 left in the game to preserve the tie. The Panthers had
some chances to win it but could not put the ball in the end zone. Nick Smith
and Zach Downey led the way offensively hooking up on a 46 yard bomb to put the
Panthers ahead in the 3rd. Nick Smith had a 4 yard touchdown and James
Intravaia a 2 yard run to cap off the scoring. Murphy, Anthony Polito, Cole
Berthlette, Conor Campbell had great nights defensively. All of the seniors and
parents were honored before the game in an on field ceremony. Next up is
Sandwich on the road Friday night.
2) Our
senior cheerleaders and their parents were also honored before the game on
Friday as well and then rested up for the Patriot League championship which was
hosted at Whitman-Hanson on Sunday. The
girls did not disappoint as they blew away the competition to win another
league title. The girls qualified for
Regionals with their performance today which means they will be competing next
week. Follow us on twitter for more
information.

At halftime of the football game Friday night, we continued with
the recent tradition of running our parade of champions. All of last
year’s league champions were honored by being presented with their championship
banners. The champions included: Fall Cheerleading, Winter Cheerleading,
Girls Soccer, Boys Cross Country and Girls Cross Country (the girls also
received their Eastern Mass Championship banner).
5)
After the game on Friday night, the captains council ran their
first ever “5th Quarter” a program designed to give our students
something productive to do in a safe environment free of drugs and
alcohol. More than 160 students gathered for a movie night in the PAC
where they watched Monsters University while enjoying free popcorn, generously
donated by the Patriot Cinemas in Hanover. The captains will run another
“5th Quarter” event sometime next month.
