Patriot League Basketball

Whitman – Senior Zach Downey captained a phenomenal defensive effort and also scored 15 points to lead Whitman-Hanson to a 63-45 win over Quincy to move the Panthers (11-3, 6-3 )into a first place tie in the Keenan Division of the Patriot League.  Sophomore Nick Smith tossed in 16 points and senior captain Shane Devlin scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half to help Whitman-Hanson avenge a 27 point loss against the President back in December.  “I can’t say enough about the defensive effort by the entire team tonight.  To hold a quality team like Quincy to just 45 points says a lot about the intensity level with which our guys approached the game tonight,” Whitman-Hanson coach Bob Rodgers said.    The Panthers led 30-27 at the half an opened a double digit lead in the third with a 10-2 run to start the quarter.  Senior Cory Cocchi chipped in with 10 while senior captain Brian Feeney recorded a double-double with 10 assists and 12 rebounds.  JT Bain (11 points) and Drew Myers (10 points) led the Presidents.
