Panthers defeat Middleboro 3-0 on Senior Night
The Whitman-Hanson Panthers honored their seniors tonight with a great victory over Middleboro winning 3-0. The seniors came together in the first set with several playing out of their normal position as the Panthers played a seniors only lineup in the first set. The set started out rough as the Panthers got used to playing out of position but once they got comfortable on the court they took the game over and pulled away for the first set victory thanks to tough serving by Alyssa Gacicia and solid play in the middle by Hannah Brett. In the second set the Panthers played back and forth for a while with Middleboro but in the end the Panthers serving was too much for the Middleboro defense to handle. The Panthers once again had solid serving to close out the set, but this time it came from Allie Spyropoulos. Chiara Cassiano led the team in the second set with strong play at the net earning several kills and a key block. In the third and deciding set the Panthers played solid volleyball and victory was never really in doubt. Alyssa Gacicia again served tough which forced Middleboro to play out of system and prevented them from mounting any type attack on offense. Madison Scott had several key digs and smart hits to help extend the Panther lead. Sophia Raiche and Rachel Brown excelled in the passing game all night allowing the Panthers offense to get into a good rhythm. Tonight was all about the seniors and each one of them contributed in a big way to help seal the 12th win of the season for the Panthers. The Panthers head to Quincy on Monday to face a tough Quincy team.
