The Whitman-Hanson Panthers rode the right arm and bat of
Ethan Phelps to their second win in a row, a 2-1 victory over visiting Plymouth
South.
Going the distance on the mound, Phelps gave up 1
unearned run on 4 hits, struck out 6 and walked only 2 batters.
Catcher Derek Frank and first baseman Aidan Cafferty
combined for a big pick-off in the last inning to help preserve the 1-run
win.Right Fielder Devin Coulstring and second baseman Mike Cook also made
crucial plays to save the Panthers.
On offense Phelps went 2 of 2, scoring the first Panther
run to tie the game in the third inning on a double by Chris Zalewski. In the fourth, after Danny Kent led off with
single and went to third on a Coulstring single, Phelps belted a long sacrifice
fly to put Whitman-Hanson ahead with the game-winning run.
Whitman-Hanson is now 2-0 in the Patriot League 2-0 overall.
