Update

 

We start this week’s update with some important information for track parents.  Boston has instituted a new vaccine mandate.  In order to attend the rest of the meets at the Reggie Lewis Center you will have to show your vaccination card.  Tickets are only available for purchase online at this address - https://fs17.formsite.com/WHathletics/3ydcjr0g39/index.html  .  We did send an email to all track families with more information so please check for it.

 

Many teams in Panther Nation are turning heads and getting some well deserved attention. 

 

Our girls basketball team remains unbeaten and has a perfect 10.0 margin of victory rating as we head into the second half of the season.  The team improved to 9-0 and continued their winning ways on Friday night by defeating Marshfield 67-49. Eight players scored for the Panthers with senior captain Lauren Dunn leading the way with 17 points, including 3 three pointers. Two Panthers recorded double-doubles, Abby Martin recorded 10 rebounds to go along with 15 points and junior point guard Caitlin Leahy chipped in with 15 points and 10 assists. The Panthers have won 9 consecutive games and will travel to Plymouth South on Tuesday night.

 

Our wrestling team won its first tournament championship since 2011 when they took home the top spot at the Weymouth Invitational on Saturday.  WH won the tournament with 165 team points edging out defending Division 1 state finalist New Bedford and Division 3 State Champion Norton who finished in 3rd.

106 pound Champion was Freshman Charlie Lussier who went 4-0 on the day and is now 20-0 on the season with 3 additional pins. Senior Joe Boss went 2-2 and placed 4th on the day. Joe is now 15-5 on the season. At 132 pounds Junior Aiden Guiliani lost a tough finals match and finished in second place. Aidan had 3 wins on the day and is now 13-2 on the season. At 138 pounds Junior Braden Kain went 3-0 on the day winning his first Championship of the season with 1 pin and 2 decisions. Braden is now an impressive 16-4 on the season. At 145 pounds Senior Captain Pat Collett finished in 4th place in a very stacked weight class. Pat went 2-2 with 2 pins and a season record of 7-6. Freshman standout Cooper Lussier also made it to the top of the podium at 152 pounds. Cooper went 4-0 on the day and has an impressive win record of 19-2 on the season. Sophomore Cohen Rosado wrestling at 195 pounds had an important win for us and finished in 6th place earning some valuable team points along the way. Senior Captain Rocco Ruffini wrestling at 220 pounds went 2-1 on the day placing 6th due to an injury. Rocco is now 8-3 on the season. Ending the day for WH was 285 pound Junior Maddox Colclough who finished the day going 3-1 with 3 pins and securing the Team Championship for WH.

 

The boys basketball team split a pair of games this week beating Duxbury on Tuesday before falling on the road to Marshfield in overtime.  In the loss to Marshfield seniors Malcolm Alcorn Crowder (21 points and 11 rebounds), Amari Jamison (19 points) and Ryan Vallancourt (14 points) all continued their terrific seasons in pacing a hard fought attack.  The Panthers have a busy week playing three games starting on Tuesday at home against Plymouth South.

 

The boys hockey team ended a long layoff with a hard fought effort at home but lost 6-5 to Plymouth North.  Plymouth North benefited from a 5 minute penalty against the Panthers to score three power play goals and build a 6-1 lead.   Sophomore Luke Tropeano scored a short handed goal late in the second to make it 6-2 heading into the 3rd.  The Panthers fought hard and scored three unanswered goals by Solari, Tropeano, and Doucette in the third, but would come up short and lose 6-5. The Panthers will host the Scituate Sailors on Monday, 1:30pm at Rockland Arena.

 

The Whitman Hanson /Silver Lake girls hockey team lost to Quincy/North Quincy last night by a score of 10-5.  WHSL was led by Shea Kelleher who had two goals, Brooke Hohmann, Caitlin Dilley and Lily Ulvila also scored, Caitlin Dilley, Brooke Hohmann, Abbey Powers and Lily Ulvila added assists. The next game is Monday 1/17/22 vs. Norwell at 12:10 at the Bog in Kingston.

 

The Whitman Hanson Varsity Gymnastics team finally was able to have their teammates all healthy enough to compete tonight against Hanover. They did an excellent job and improved their team score by over 4 points! Highlights include Junior captain Steph Braga’s upgraded vault scoring an 8.3 and Junior Sarah Regan’s beautiful 8.4 floor routine. Junior captain Riley Getchell had an amazing night and scored an 8.5 on her rock solid beam routine and an 8.6 on an explosive vault. Freshman Katelyn Ferraro competed in the All Around for the second meet in a row and improved her scores on both floor and vault. The WHSL swim team lost to Pembroke this week.  A reminder that because we are a co-op with Silver Lake and they are the host school, schedules and information on the team can be found on their website and at arbiterlive.com .
